• Laureato in Scienze Agrarie presso l'Universita' degli Studi di Bologna nel 1984.

• Dal 1985 svolge la propria attività presso il CNR IBIMET (ex ISTEA, ex "CESTEF").  Ha trascorso periodi di specializazione per complessivi oltre 2 anni presso Istituzioni Scientifiche Europee e Nordamericane (''Station Des Cultures Fruitieres et Maraicheres' del Ministero dell'Agricoltura del Belgio Gembloux, Belgio; l'Agricultural Research Center, HRI, East Malling, UK; Plant Science Institute, USDA Beltsville, USA). Dal 1993 ricercatore CNR.
  

• Primo ricercatore presso Istituto di Biometeorologia del CNR di Bologna (idoneità a Dirigente di Ricerca (bando364/86) da 2007).

• Responsabile Laboratorio Analisi Sensoriale IBIMET.
  

• Coordinatore del Portale “GSQ – Gusto Salute Qualità (http://www.gustosalutequalita.it/it ).

• Autore di oltre 180 pubblicazioni, oltre 130 in-exteso. Tra queste: 24 ISI; 16 come autore unico (1 ISI, 2 internazionali, 13 nazionali) 36 come primo nome (12 ISI, 17 internazionali, 12 nazionali);  H-index=10 (ISI Web of Knowledge).

• E' autore di 4 capitoli di libri a diffusione internazionale, 5 monografie a diffusione nazionale.
  

• Dall'attività di ricerca sono state ottenute due nuove cultivar di pero licenziate nel 2000.

• Dal 1995 al 2000 è stato membro interno e segretario del Consiglio Scientifico dell'ISTEA CNR. Dal 2009 membro del Consiglio d'Istituto dell'IBIMET-CNR.
  

• Responsabile unità IBIMET partecipante al Laboratorio Regione Emilia- Romagna SIQUAL,(2005-2007) e SITEIA (2008-2010) come esperto di analisi sensoriale nel Workpackage "Tipicità e qualità degli alimenti: tracciabilità molecolare e proprietà sensoriali"
